Workshop I: Natural Dyeing — Color from the Earth
April 18th
10 - 12pm
ages 5 - 12 (with parent)
In this gentle, hands-on workshop, children and their caregivers are introduced to the art of dyeing silk using colors drawn directly from nature. Working with plant-based dyes such as onion skins, avocado pits, and seasonal botanicals, participants will experience the quiet transformation of silk as it takes on soft, luminous hues.
Simple resist techniques—folding, tying, and binding—will be explored to create subtle pattern and variation. The process invites patience, observation, and a sense of wonder.
Each family will leave with hand-dyed play silks, well-suited for imaginative play, movement, and everyday beauty.
$95 per enrollment (includes all materials for parent & child participants)
Workshop II: Immersion Dyeing — Exploring Color and Resist
April 25th
10 - 12pm
ages 5 - 12 (with parent)
This workshop offers a deeper exploration of color through the use of immersion dye baths and fiber-reactive dyes. Participants will work with a fuller spectrum of color, observing how hues deepen, shift, and interact within the silk.
Through a series of resist techniques—twisting, binding, and clamping and dip dyeing—families will create patterns that emerge gradually from the dye bath. The focus remains on process: careful handling of materials, attentiveness to sequence, and an openness to unexpected results.
$95 per enrollment (includes all materials for parent & child participants)
Workshop III: Pattern and Motif — Direct Application on Silk
May 9 th & 16th
10 - 12pm (ages 5 - 12, with parent)
In this workshop, participants are invited to work more directly with design. Using brushes and simple tools and kid friendly version of batik, dyes are applied onto silk to create patterns inspired by both traditional motifs and contemporary forms.
We will consider elements such as rhythm, repetition, and balance, drawing from natural forms and cultural patterns as points of inspiration. Children and caregivers are encouraged to move thoughtfully, allowing designs to develop with intention and care.
The result is a uniquely patterned silk that reflects both individual expression and a shared creative process.
$55 per adult
$45 per child
